People Try Harder When They Like Their Boss

It’s a new segment we're calling, "That's it, that's the tweet."

It's so simple, and to be fiercely committed to that as an organization is so important.

That's why leaders have to ask for feedback, ask employees about their experience with middle management, and only promote people that are great leaders. Hire for great leadership. Make that the focus of your organization.

For most organizations, when talking about performance, engagement, and retention, what you receive is in direct correlation to how much they like their boss. I’m talking about this in terms of discretionary effort, how hard they try at their jobs, and how long they'll stay there.

All of those things are so greatly impacted by whether or not people like their boss.

So you have to hire great leaders, you have to focus on that, train your leaders, give them skills, give them capacity and autonomy.

If companies are fiercely committed to upholding that, you're winning out here, that's it. That's all I have to say. I got nothing else. It's so simple.
