Staying calm and zen to keep your peace of mind.
In the midst of the daily chaos of life, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by the constant stream of stressors coming our way. Things that can get into our heads and cause us to lose peace of mind. Whether it’s something someone said, an unexpected challenge, or just the weight of everyday responsibilities, it’s not impossible to sometimes find ourselves drowning in stress.
Here’s a simple yet powerful tool to help you avoid getting worked up, and reframe your mind to hopefully reclaim your peace:
Ask yourself, “Is it that important?”
Emotional boundaries.
Mental resilience is crucial for maintaining well-being in stressful environments. One effective way to build resilience is by setting emotional boundaries — deciding what you allow to affect you and what you don’t.
By catching yourself in the moment and asking, “Is it that important?” you give yourself the power to decide what’s worth your energy and what isn’t.
In my experience, most of the time the answer is “no, not really,” and when I recognize that I don’t need to continue to focus on or stay worked up whatever it is that I’m faced with, it’s a huge help to being able to just let it go.
Choosing what to carry.
Many of the things that stress us out aren’t as important as they seem in the moment.
It’s important to note that it’s not about pretending everything is perfect, it’s about recognizing that not everything deserves a place in your mind or heart and many things are not worth disrupting your peace.
There are a lot of benefits to mindfulness like this, especially when it comes to reducing stress. For one, it’s really empowering to feel like you are more in control of your own emotional responses as opposed to being blown around in the wind by every little thing.
Final thoughts.
That’s it. A quick tip to help you stay grounded and maintain your peace of mind in a sometimes chaotic world. Life will always be full of challenges, but by asking “Is it that important?” you can sometimes choose what you do or don’t let into your boat, and keep your journey a little smoother.
